Hefei Cement Research & Design Institute Co., Ltd. (HCRDI) connected a 9 MW waste heat recovery power plant for VICEM Ha Tien Cement Joint Stock Company in Vietnam to the grid on its first attempt at 10:30 p.m. local time on 9 October 2026. The unit reached its rated electrical output within an hour. The project has now entered grid-connected trial operation, ahead of formal handover.

The system is designed to generate electricity from heat recovered during cement production. Under an engineering and procurement (EP) contract, HCRDI supplied equipment and technical guidance. Ha Tien selected a Vietnamese contractor for the main civil works and installation.
HCRDI’s site team worked with the owner and local contractor throughout installation and commissioning. Its engineers explained design drawings, checked installation and construction quality against technical requirements, and assisted with individual equipment tests, integrated system testing and inspections before grid connection.
Despite high temperatures and heavy rain, the teams completed the required checks ahead of their mid-October grid connection target. The first connection and the unit’s rapid rise to rated output mark a key commissioning milestone. HCRDI will continue working with Ha Tien through the trial run and preparations for handover.
